Tomer Avraham, MD, FACS, is a board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon whose focus is helping patients regain themselves, both in appearance and in function. Dr. Avraham has expertise in all areas of cosmetic and reconstructive surgery. His belief is that cosmetic plastic surgery is a tool to return the body to its previous form and function. He is passionate about achieving the best possible result for each patient so that they can look and feel like the best possible versions of themselves.
The philosophy that cosmetic appearance and reconstruction go hand in hand has led Dr. Avraham to develop specialized expertise. He specializes in all forms of breast surgery and reconstruction, including tissue and implant-based techniques. These procedures are designed to help women regain their confidence and restore their sense of self. He views his work as a reconstructive surgeon as an opportunity to help women with the difficult physical changes that often accompany their cancer treatment. Dr. Avraham is a true partner in achieving patient goals and is personally invested in his patients and their outcomes.
Dr. Avraham finds his work as a surgeon intellectually stimulating and he is especially interested in how he can use complex surgical techniques to achieve the most complete and natural solution to each patient’s concerns. Dr. Avraham has a particular interest in microsurgical techniques for using a woman’s own tissues for reconstructing her breast. These techniques include the DIEP flap, PAP flap and others.
Dr. Avraham has a track record of working at prestigious institutions, including Mount Sinai Hospitals and at the Yale School of Medicine, where he served as Director of Breast Reconstruction. In addition to his work as a clinician, he has an extensive research background, with over 50 peer reviewed publications. “Innovation and progress are important to me. Research allows us to fine tune our approach and to figure out the best options in treating our patients,” says Dr. Avraham. Dr. Avraham has spoken about his work in many national and international conferences and serves on several committees for the American Society of Plastic Surgery, helping guide national policy within his specialty.
Dr. Avraham attended medical school at Tufts University School of Medicine, where he graduated with honors as a member of the prestigious AOA Honor Society. He then completed his plastic surgery residency and microsurgery fellowship at the renowned NYU Institute of Reconstructive Plastic Surgery. During his residency, Dr. Avraham received extensive cosmetic surgery training both at NYU and the world-famous Manhattan Eye Ear and Throat Hospital. Dr. Avraham further completed a three-year research fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, where he served as Chief Research fellow and was awarded the Research Fellow of the Year Award. Prior to joining our practice Dr. Avraham was faculty at Mount Sinai Hospitals in NY, and most recently at Yale.
